One of my greatest passions in life is taking care of my skin and helping others to care for theirs. Here are 5 tips for getting your skin in the best shape of your life!

1. A Top Notch Home Care Routine:

You don't need a 10 step routine to have beautiful, healthy skin. Skincare can be simple and still be incredibly effective. Ideally, you want to use a gentle cleanser, a toner to balance the pH of your skin and bring in hydration, a serum or 2 for targeting specific concerns, an appropriate weight moisturizer and sunscreen. Those are your products for daily use. Weekly, you want to think about exfoliating and adding a treatment mask to calm, hydrate and bring extra nutrients into your skin. It's as simple as that!

2. Pay Attention To Diet:

Being mindful of how our skin responds to certain food groups and ingredients can be so helpful in meeting our skin goals. There are quite a few foods that can be acne triggers and can increase inflammation which is the root of all evil. Pay attention to your sugar intake, dairy, gluten...etc. Increasing consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and high quality protein will not only help your skin but will optimize your health in general.

3. Hydrate!

Drinking water will not directly benefit your skin. Your skin is the last organ that will benefit from increasing your water intake. BUT, your other organs will thank you and a side effect of that is your skin looking more vibrant and healthy. When you increase your water intake, you, as a whole, become less dehydrated. Your organs begin to work more effectively. The outside is just reflecting what is happening inside.

To address hydration from a topical standpoint, we can add a hyaluronic acid serum and that works well to hydrate and plump up the skin.

4. Supplements:

Anything that is good for your brain and/or immune system is good for your skin. Omega's, Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin D and Probiotics are skin superhero's! A bioavailable multi vitamin can also be really helpful in supporting skin health. In the spa, I carry Face Reality Skin Supplements and have been really happy with them. The research that went into these supplements is impressive and they do a great job of supporting the skins daily nutritional requirements. I also appreciate the price point as they are quite affordable at $34 for the zinc/probiotic blend and $42 for the omega/antioxidant blend.

5. Chill Out!

Pause. Breathe. Walk. Take a bath. Something that helps me is trying to look at some of my regular daily activities as self care. Even things like doing the dishes and laundry. I'm viewing it as as a form of caring for myself and that makes it more enjoyable. Reducing stress can be next to impossible so we have to get creative. What are some things you have found helpful in reducing stress?
